Good news for PS3 owners! The Blu-ray disc association has agreed to update its codec to be Multiview Video Coding that require 50% more storage space per film over 2D dual 1080p frames videos.

However, PS3 owners will need a new 3D and Infra-Red enabled TV and a set of 3D shutter shades. At least, no more necessity to spend another dime for a blu-ray in order to enjoy a 3D blu-ray disc using your current PS3 device.

All new 3D discs are going to be backwards compatible too, meaning the 2D versions of each film will be viewable on older hardware with the new 3D discs.

This is encouraging for PS3 game developers, as the 3D gaming is somehow made possible via the use of the new blu-ray codec.
