Active Media has unveiled the Aviator 312. This is the first SSD drive uses the USB 3.0 interface. The Aviator 312 will have a speed of 4.8Gbits/sec, that’s ten fold the speed of a USB drive. The Aviator 312 SSD is taking dimension of 3″ long x 0.2″ thick. The available capacities are 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. Active Media claims that the device will have data retention up to 10 years.
Aviator 312 comes with a carry pouch and a USB 3.0 micro-B cable for connectivity to any port. This device will work well with any USB 2.0 or 1.1 port as well, just at lower speeds. For a 25GB HD film, it will spend about two minutes to finish recording.
Aviator 312 has the wonderful error correcting tech and the reading speed is up to 240Mb/sec and writing speed of 160Mb/sec on USB 3.0 mode. Like all SSDs, there are no moving parts inside the drive and it is made with MLC NAND flash chips.
No further info on pricing, but predicted this device will definitely not a cheap one.
