Increase concern over crimes triggered by global economy recession has light up an idea for Canon to produce their new Canon VB-C500VD camera. This camera is specially designed to be fixed for indoor security usage where vandalism or tampering are the major concern. The device itself has a long nickname of “Vandal Resistant Fixed Mini Dome Network Camera”.
Using Canon’s DIGIC NET image processor, it has a 2.4x optical zoom with 82 degrees wide-angle lens, a progressive-scan CCD and it has a resolution of 640×480 with capturing speed of 30fps. The captured videos are in M-JPEG or MPEG-4 format for remote monitoring over IP.
The advanced Canon image processor provides Smart Shade Control, which automatically adjusts the contrast between bright and dark areas of an image for optimum detail display, and an Auto Day/Night function, allowing the camera to automatically switch between Day Mode and Digital Night Mode depending upon lighting conditions.
Canon’s VB-C500VD supports the IEEE 802.3af standard for Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology. It will be available in Mid-October.
