Dane Elec is launching their USB 3.0 So Series SuperSpeed USB Hard Drives for American market, together with the desktops and notebooks’ add-on cards. The lines including SoMobile’s 2.5-inch hard drives with 500GB and 640GB capacities; the SoReady, a 3.5-inch hard drives with capacities ranging from 500GB to 2TB; and the 2.5-inch SoPremium M-25 solid state drives.
According to spokeman from Dane-Elec, SoMobile’s speed is expected to be 3 times faster than the latest usb 2.0 drives, somewhere between 80~90Mb/s.
Meanwhile, the SoPremium with 160GB storage capacity is expected for a top speed of 250MB/s.
These USB 3.0 drives are compatible for Windows XP / Vista /7, either on 32-bit or 64-bit. SoReady 3.5″ desktop drives is compatible with standard USB 2.0 cables, of course a lower speed should be expected.
Hence, same cables won’t work with the SoMobile 2.5″ portable drives, you will need the bundled USB 3.0 cables (as well as the optional upgrade card) for performance gain.
