Will this device become the next generation of time card and door security system?
FaceID is said to have less than 0.0001% margin for error in its face recognition algorithm. The device works with a mere 12V and 5V in the standby mode, a practical yet energy saving device, worth the consideration for medium up to large scale companies.
No more tiresome punch cards collection every end of the month, definitely a good Human Resource and security departments’ tool. Only those with correct faces will be able to login and access to enter the door.
However, no information if someday the device running out of power or damage, what would happen to the employees? Will they be able to get in or get out of the building in term of fire, sudden earth quake, sabotage or even a terrorist act? And how fast will the access in case someone in a hurry and need to have a fast access in or out of the office building? While those questions remain unsolved, below are some key specification of the FaceID…

The FaceID system uses digital cameras to generate a 3-dimensional image of the individual’s face, and runs an algorithm to detect whether the face is on its internal database. The 3-D images also prevent people hacking the system by using a 2D fake up photo. However, will it win against the Hollywood artists that could re-create people’s faces using a real 3-dimensional toy?
The device is confirmed to be smart enough to cope with various lighting conditions, and can even work in the dark!
