Umbrella is a concept by Constantin Boincean, Ralph Bertram, Aleksandra Danielak from Oslo, Norway. They succeed to take away the first prize of USD5,000 for Professional Category for the Los Angeles Cleantech Corridor and Green District Competition that was sponsored by The Architect’s Newspaper and the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc).

In fact, the Umbrella concept look more like a mushroom-shaped solar evaporators. The concept is designed in corresponding to the Clean Tech Corridor campaign by Office of the Mayor of Los Angeles and the Community Redevelopment Agency of Los Angeles. The project area are actually a 2,000-acre mixed-use development zone near downtown LA.

Umbrella concept offer the mushroom looking structures that capable to take black water from city sewage to be cleaned in the dome through a process of solar evaporation. The evaporated water moisture will be gathered as clean water that could be distributed and released through-out the streets through a evaporation and condensation process in order to transform the surrounding areas into greener public spaces.

However, no promise from the LA’s Mayor Office that the first prize winner’s concept will soon pop-up in the Clean Tech Corridor near downtown LA anytime soon.
