Pixel Qi technology has been experimenting on the possibility to provide low energy consumption display for outdoor usage. The latest 10-inch prototype Pixel Qi display is claimed require a mere 0.5 watts in black and white mode.

Furthermore, there is now a possibility to integrate a small solar panel at the rear side of the Pixel Qi display for generating 1 Watt of electricity, meaning, in monochrome viewing mode, you will simply need to face the solar panel side to direct sun light for free electricity recharge and longer viewing time.

Other unique capability on the latest Pixel Qi’s LCD touchscreen has been put forth by Mary Lou Jepsen, the Pixel Qi’s founder, which enable auto switch of color into monochrome mode whenever the display is being used outdoor, and whenever you bring in the Pixel Qi display indoor, it will change back to color screen.

Hey, why Apple 2 not using Pixel Qi touchscreen anyway?
