André Silva has introduced a new concept that will let users to use their portable external hard drive or SSD as a multi-touch trackpad. The LaCie Float concept is aimed to reduce the number of mobile peripherals you should carry with your laptop or notebook bag.
André Silva has designed the LaCie Float‘s casing with 21 LEDs at the rear side for dark room usage, using carbon fiber and glass material for the surface, giving a luxurious feel for the touch.
Surely, Solid State Drives will have the ruggedness to withstand tapping on its casing surface, but what about the magnetic head inside a portable external hard drive, would it also withstand similar vibration in active mode?
No info whether LaCie will be taking this concept into mass production yet.
