Laser Weapons For Satellites: Mass Protector Or Mass Destroyer?

Have you read or imagine about the possibility of launching satellites with highly destructive laser weapon to the outer space? You might feel bored reading those solar powered vehicles, however integration of laser weapon on satellites by researchers at University of Strathclyde might probably inspired by the Armageddon movie to protect our planet from the destructive asteroids or meteors that bear huge potential to cause extinction for entire ecology on our planet.

The second reason is the brief visit of 99942 Apophis asteroid in 2004 that becomes another ‘real’ reminder that collision between asteroids and earth is by all means possible as been described in the Armageddon movie.

The goal of this laser weapon is to ablate some part of the asteroid surface and steer it away from earth as the end result, as material is vaporized from the asteroid’s surface, it generates thrust and propels the asteroid away from its original course.

However, there are also many cons about launching of destructive laser weapon out into the outer space,  since, human are getting ‘greedier’ and ‘more selfish’ with all the wonderful technology achievement, don’t you think that it is also possible that a real planet saving technology might turn to be other destructive weapon and war triggering tool among those developed nations including U.S, China, Russia and India?

Lord-Emerich-Edward-Dalberg-Acton

Since ‘Power Tends to Corrupt, and Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely‘ , a famous quote by Lord Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton in a letter he wrote to scholar and ecclesiastic Mandell Creighton, dated April 1887:

“But if we might discuss this point until we found that we nearly agreed, and if we do agree thoroughly about the impropriety of Carlylese denunciations and Pharisaism in history, I cannot accept your canon that we are to judge Pope and King unlike other men, with a favourable presumption that they did no wrong. If there is any presumption it is the other way, against the holders of power, increasing as the power increases. Historic responsibility has to make up for the want of legal responsibility. Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority, still more when you superadd the tendency or the certainty of corruption by authority. There is no worse heresy than that the office sanctifies the holder of it. That is the point at which the negation of Catholicism and the negation of Liberalism meet and keep high festival, and the end learns to justify the means. You would hang a man of no position like Ravaillac; but if what one hears is true, then Elizabeth asked the gaoler to murder Mary, and William III. ordered his Scots minister to extirpate a clan.

Here are the greatest names coupled with the greatest crimes; you would spare those criminals, for some mysterious reason. I would hang them higher than Haman, for reasons of quite obvious justice, still more, still higher for the sake of historical science.[4]“

For heaven sake, if only one leader among those developed countries controlled by the dark side ‘evil’, what would our earth potentially ended up with?

Not to credit Bruce Willis for his perfomance on the Armageddon movie, but since human are getting more advance in terms of technology, don’t you think equipping destructive laser weapon is not a wise decision without the intervention and monitoring process of the United Nations?

It seems ‘dark vader’ leaders are and will always exists and persist in our human history, what do you think?
