It is a bit scary to think of someday, a small town in a country might turn into real zombie land. Based on report from Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, there is a new type of micro-organism called Naegleria fowleri is able to survive the chlorine in the tap water and has the capability to eat up your brains!

Creepy? Well, this is not an introduction for a Halloween movie, but if things get worse in Louisiana, you better try to find a better source of healthy water for your home use and never try to irrigate your sinuses with tap water for whatever reason.

According to Yahoo! News, the brain-eating micro-organism caused two people to lost their lives in that state, infected after the irrigated their sinuses with tap water, but no, thus far the Naegleria fowleri amoeba will not control human brain, but will only eat up and kill the host.

Naegleria fowleri itself is a micro-organism that found to be living in ponds, lakes, hot springs or anywhere where there is warm fresh water. In common sense, Naegleria fowleri lives in soil and un-chlorinated swimming pools, but this time, the new type of the micro-organism is able to survive in chlorinated tap water, and comes with brain eating digestive system.

However, scientists has also discovered that, when you drink the tap water with the Naegleria fowleri, there’s no danger as the acid in your gastric will eventually dissolve and kill those harmful micro-organisms, but not with sinuses patient that irrigate their nose using the tap water, the micro-organism will be able to get in directly into their brain and cause fatal damage of infection on the nervous system and eventually deliver the infected sinuses patients to their short cut to the heaven within 14 days.

Symptoms

The symptoms for patients infected by Naegleria fowleri micro-organisms start one to 14 days after the infections. Patients infected by the brain eating Naegleria fowleri will get no taste and smell, frequent headaches, fever as well as nausea. The neck will go rigid and vomiting is the next phase of the disease.

The patient will also feel confusion and hallucinations, as well as seizures. Death is the end result after one to two weeks after the exposure/infected.

The possible remedy for those in Louisiana is by preventing your nose and ears being exposed to not sterilized tap water. You could boil the tap water prior using it for bath and showering by sinking your head into the bath tub with open ears and nose is not recommended.
