Imagine if you could see a floating 3D image/animation right in front of you without needing any special 3D glasses!
Now, no need to imagine further, as Pioneer Japan has come out with their “Floating Vision” – a USB connected display device resemble a box with 640×480 resolution. The device comes with drivers and software that are available for both Mac and PC. So far, this device is being sold exclusively in Japan by Pioneer.
The Floating Vision was appeared on the Digital Contents Expo in Japan. The 6 inch device has fairly narrow, 10 degree, viewing range currently, so its applications will tend towards a single user.
For the fairly narrow viewing angle, this device is geared towards a few niche of markets as such of video chatting, and instant messaging. What even wonder on this device is, users will be able to interact with the 3D images, provided, you use it with the special developed applications from Pioneer.
The device comes with a microphone and a pair of speakers, unfortunately no 3D camera. Digital modeling for medical and artistic uses are facilitated with the aid of motion sensors which allow you to physically interact with the 3D images.
