It must be exciting to drive one of those in your water sport session, but not all countries allowed their citizen flying using a boat! And an Italian company, Ramphos, has created three wonderful model of flying boats, namely the Hydro, Trident and Amphibian.

sBut another thing need to take consideration, besides account full of extra bucks, one must obtain the appropriate flying license in order to fly the Ramphos. This is pretty much concerning local country’s legal aspect and appropriate training in order to safely fly those boats.

According to Gizmag.com, an Australian license to fly your own Ramphos, including the amphibious endorsement, can be obtained through Tyson’s FreeFlying school in QLD. You’ll also need a boat license in many areas. Australian pricing starts from around AUD$40,000 plus GST.

Ramphos Hydro

The original Ramphos trike was developed in 1998 and was designed to operate for tourist enjoyment with sightseeing flights over local beaches and lakes. The design meant to be an economical and easy to operate flying boat.

The first models were equipped with the Rotax 503 and 582 series of engines. The original wing used was the HZ 15″C”. This wing has a long safety and performance record and has been German DULV certified for more than 15 years.

The double surface design allows a relatively high cruise speed with docile handling and stall characteristics. The combination of high performance wing and stable hull design permits operations in high wind and heavy seas. The frame is constructed of high quality, aircraft grade stainless steel. This along with the fiberglass hull construction allows continued operations in salt water environments. The Ramphos Hydro, with a light weight of only 198 Kg., became available in kit form in late 2000.

This quick build kit does not require welding or fiberglass work and saves the builder money in terms of initial purchase and shipping costs.

Ramphos Trident

The amphibian version was released in 1999. The landing gear is strong and easy to operate.
Only one lever action is required to extend and retract the gear. A retractable water rudder was installed, it extends and retracts automatically in conjunction with gear position.
The Trident model is the most requested model. It is equipped with the Rotax 582 and a composite three or five blade propeller with brass leading edge protection.

Ramphos/Sonic Amphibian

In 2005 in the Ramphos hull system was modified to accept the German Sonic trike.
The Sonic trike is German DULV certified with the Rotax 582 and Mercedes Smart Turbo Gasoline engines.
The TurboG , a four stroke, has a rating of 67/78 Hp. and a fuel burn of only five liters per hour and comes equipped with centrifugal clutch and sturdy belt drive.
The Sonic frame is also constructed using high grade stainless steel. This combination is to be totally cerified by DULV by the end of January 2006.

Ramphos “S” Amphibian

The “S” model is our upscale model. The hull is constructed using Kevlar and Carbon fiber cloths. The hull is equipped with Lexan viewing ports beneath the pilot’s seat. This unit can utilize the Rotax 582, 912 and Smart TurboG engines.
