A solar powered lounger called Soft rocker, it is the idea by Prof. Sheila Kennedy and her architecture students at MIT to build a solar powered sun lounger as a modern furniture powered by environmental friendly green energy.

SOFT rocker comes with a built-in LED light system useful for cloudy days or night that should be pretty awesome for outdoor furniture, you could put the SOFT rocker on your park, yard or garden decoration. The smooth curvy lines of the furniture resemble a leaf-shape with sit area inside the circle where you could enjoy your relax moment outdoor while expose to a bit of sun shine or moon light depend on your mood at any particular moment.

The leaf-like loop form of the SOFT Rockers explores how standard softwood panels can be mass-customized to adapt to the latitude and sun angle of any site using parametric design software and automated fabrication with a lightweight Kuka robotic arm. The SOFT Rocker combines hi-tech and low-tech design strategies: it produces electricity but engages the body and works like furniture “by hand”; it mixes sun tracking and social dynamics; it is a site specific object and a flexible form family of ‘soft’ wood construction.

SOFT Rocker has intergrated a solar panel along the roof-top, the panel itself is connected to a 12 ampere rechargeable battery at the base, while the battery also has some USB ports to allow you to recharge your mobile electronic devices including smartphone, mp3 player as well as tablet when the sun goes down.
