2010 seems to be the year of tablet pcs, big players such as Apple, Asus and Microsoft. However, many other brands such as Notion Ink will also introduce their new SmartPad tablet during the CES 2010. The SmartPad has a dimension of 6.3×9.7×0.6 inches, weighing only 1.7lbs.
Notion Ink’s ‘SmartPad’ is a 10.1-inch touchscreen display tablet pc. The SmartPad offers an 8 hours continuous 1024 x 600 HD video playback or 16 hours of WiFi enabled internet surfing or 48 hours of standby time before a battery recharge is needed. Obviously, its eight-core Tegra T20 chipset is the primary factor responsible for such longevity, though Notion Ink can’t share any more details on that SoC itself.
Device also plunge in accelerometer and proximity, ambient light and water sensors. Whilst, other features of GPS, digital compass, USB, HDMI, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microphone input, and there’s also a 3-megapixel autofocus camera with video recording support. Onboard storage is either 16GB or 32GB of SSD, and there’s an SD slot for extendable storage capacities.
Although Notion Ink’s SmartPad has not been officially named, this Google Android OS based SmartPad tablet will be the first of its kind in the consumer electronics market to introduce Pixel Qi transflective display technology.
Pixel Qi transflective display has the competitive edge of low power consumption whilst able to maintain its view-ability under direct sunlight condition. The panel itself can be viewed indoors as a regular LCD, or outdoors in either transflective mode with reduced color vibrancy or fully reflective 64-level grayscale mode.
Notion Ink has also taking emphasize on its media playback. You could play three 1080p HD videos simultaneously with only a minor loss in frames.
