Guess, no one truly understand what’s in the head of those big IT players. Western Digital has made an aggressive move by acquiring Hitachi GST at a mega deal of USD4.3 Billion value.

Suppose Western Digital really view Hitachi Global Storage Technologies as the direct rival in the storage market? No further report about the near future expansion plans, but in the company’s press release, it mentioned about enhancing R&D capabilities and for achieving better economy of scale.

The 4.3 billion deal is expected to close at third quarter this year and will comprise USD3.5 billion in cash and 25 million WD common shares valued at USD750 million, and two Hitachi’s executives to be added to the board of directors seats at WD.

Darn simple, isn’t it?
