Xbox 360 Next Generation – Xbox 720 Concept

by Edward Xu on September 1, 2009

If 360 means a circle degree, we can’t figure out where the 720 number come from! :) One of the futuristic design made for the next generation of Xbox 360 concept is the motion detecting device called Xbox 720.

It takes the shape resembling the blend between american football and an UFO. The device concept is designed by Tai Chiem at Coroflot. This new Xbox 720 concept is said to carry all the project natal features inside the device.

Always fun to explore the possibility of new design for future technological gadget.  No info if a CD-Rom will be included in this device, seeing the overwhelming progress of SSD and other external hard drives as durable storage device, will the future Xbox Discs recorded in a SSD or USB3.0 or eSATA? It is still a mystery for us at this stage. More pictures after the jump.

The concept design was made in color hues of classic red, green and blue and a combination of black and silver. Another question is, will microsoft consider this shape for their future Xbox gaming device? Hard to tell, but there’s always a chance, even though the possibility only 1 percent, don’t you think so?

This looks very conceptual, we now need to look at what the consumer does with their xbox.. do they stack other electronic on to of it ? where could this fit in my living room …. i need to see some research on practicality.

Does it really need to be that wide ? what does the inside circuit look like? will there be any plastic waste ?
Nowdays most people have a flat screen tv,, so obviously nothing that size can be put on top of it ..
These are just quick brainstorming questions that popped into my head .. i m not criticizing at all .. just suggesting some directions.

Keep up the good work .

Thanks for your constructive comment!

We sincerely believe that to be accepted as a useful design, a designer, especially for gaming device, need to consider all aspect of his/her design to fit well to the users in general and gamers in particular.

Dimension, color, component, usage convenience and supporting peripherals are crucial parts that will determine the success or failure of the design itself.

Haha, it still a concept, so don’t be surprised on the wacky weirdy outlook.

If you want honesty.. 100,000% thumbs up for creativity but… i would not buy that console if it looked like that no matter what game title its launched even if i had to give up gears 3 or halo 4. as i said fantastic job with the creativity of this concept, maybe go more practical the looks because honestly were would i put it say i needed it stacked on its side i don’t want to have to rig something together to do it.

Then there’s just the whole (X”BOX”) concept there maybe something based on the 360 but a lot slimmer and come in a variety of colors (red, black, white, green, orange, pink, etc) like ipods, so you can maybe open up to a larger audience .

As nab said a lot of people nowadays have flat screens not just because there sweet and awesome and completely bad *** but because the there practical they don’t take up much space they very nice straight edges and clean lines and their slick and have an amazing picture.

[Scenario] i have and nice 60-inch flat screen (jet black) in my living room mounted on the wall with a wooden counter top under it with a few books and other stuff.

[Question] do the think something as like the concept above or some thing simple that could fit under… say. . . a few of those books?

Just simple ask your self these questions. were heading toward the future right now and the in thing is “how small can you get it?”, “is it something i can have laying around and someone not think twice about it?”.

Now not saying do it exactly but take a look back at the design of the play station 2 “slim” not the regular. that system was almost flawless as far as practicality goes and it was compact, sleek and sexy the only major drawback was you couldn’t stack anything on top of it because the disc compartment flipped open. now think..

Picture something like the XBOX 360 ELITE but maybe 1/2 to 3/4th its size some thing you cant stack stuff on top of or stand it side ways next to something and have it blend in completely almost as if its not even there.

Just some quick thoughts. great work. sorry if i bashed the concept a little but i guess if its something like this you need honesty. so good luck i hope i helped a little.
